Mr. SELVAKKANNAN R
HEAD MASTER at PANCHAYAT UNION PRIMARY SCHOOL,K.PARAMATHI,KARUR DISTRICT,TAMILNADU
Tamil Nadu (Karur)
National Teacher Awardee (2019)
I qualified through the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) in 1995 and joined service as a Secondary Grade Teacher. After serving as an Assistant Teacher for seven years, I was promoted as a Primary School Headmaster in 2002.
The school where first I was posted had only six students from Classes I to V combined and functioned as a single-teacher school. Within just three months, with the active cooperation of the village community, Parents, and Alumni the school underwent a remarkable transformation. Student enrolment increased from 6 to 26. Seating facilities, uniforms, identity cards, and footwear were provided to all students with the help of donors. A compound wall was constructed, and toilet and drinking water facilities were established. A private bus service was also arranged for the school.
After serving there for three years, I was transferred in 2005 to the school where I am currently working. Interestingly, I am also an alumnus of this school, having studied there up to Class VI.
When I joined, the school have no basic infrastructure. For many days, I spent sleepless nights thinking about how to transform it into a school where every parent would want to enrol their child. Eventually, I envisioned and planned the creation of a “Dream School.”
As a result of 20 years of continuous and dedicated effort with the help of Village public, Parents, Friends and Alumni, the school has now become one of the most well-known schools in Tamil Nadu. What once had only two buildings now functions with seven buildings. All classrooms are equipped with 75-inch smart televisions and internet connectivity. Common Announcement System for all Classrooms, safe drinking Water , Modern separate Toilets for students and teachers with 24 hours running water, CCTV for students Safety and so many facilities.
The School Management Committee, constituted under the provisions of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, has been functioning exceptionally well and serves as a model for schools across Tamil Nadu.
The First ISO 9001 : 2015 certified school and also Our school holds the distinction of being the first school in India to obtain Japan's 5S Certification, Chief minister’s Innovation School Award with cash prize Rs.1 Lakh , Model School for Activity Based Learning with Rs.25,000 Cash Prize, Prime minister Swachh Bharath Award at District level, Green and Eco friendly school Award and more than 40 awards from government and NGOs.
