MY STUDENTS ARE MY GURUS
I am in the Profession with passion, not for the income, but for the outcome of my students. I was appointed in the year 2000 and I have finished 19 years of service as a Teacher. I have learned many things from my students within these 19 years. I am working in a rural background where the students are from Below Poverty Line and most of the parents are illiterate, who leave their children with their grandparents as they migrate to towns and cities for their livelihood.
I am a teacher of English with lots of hopes, dreams and passion to educate the village children who need to be uplifted to succeed in this competitive world. I wish to promote 21st century skills to my learners and enhance them to become good citizens of our nation and make Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalams dream of India becoming a super power country come true.
I have made my students to involve in a lot of collaborative activities which is a miracle for their psychological grievances. This collaborative activities with other countries like France and USA has given them lot of confidence not only with their language skills but also with their dream carrier. When I was doing my M.Ed., course I conducted a research study on the topic Computer assisted collaborative language learning for this I took six schools as experimental group and conducted the research ,this research findings revealed the fact that rural students are more curious, inquisitive and interested in learning through computers and using other electronic gadgets to learn a foreign language. I have also made my students to prepare power point presentations and interact with others without any fear or shyness. My research findings also resulted with a trip to discover mouse mischief software as a solution for interaction with powerpoint by many students as an cost effective economical way of smart evaluation to many at a time. I tried it for all the subjects and have succeeded in my attempt.I have also promoted the same to two of the state teachers (Tamil Nadu and Kerala) through science exhibition.
After joining PIL (Partners in Learning)network now turned as education.microsoft.com, I could get so many resources from like minded innovative teachers who are in the forum across the globe. I could use their innovative ideas in my classrooms .I bought Kinect X Box to make my students who are labelled as slow learners and children with special needs ,to interact with the media with gestures. They astonished seeing the hand movements and the Kinect sensors response .I had connected my students with US students and made my class students to interact through skype. This interaction arouse interest among students to speak in English .When I have completed all the courses in PIL network I got so many useful links. One important among that was classtools.net .I had created an online game in the website which helped a lots of students to learn English Grammar.
